First Attempt

These are the first set of photographs i took in the studio. I am not very happy with them for a number of reasons. Firstly the body paint looked white on camera and didn't reflect the light in the way i wanted it to. Also i did not meter the lights correctly, meaning my photographs looked too dark. As a result the photos have been heavily edited in Lightroom and Photoshop.







I used two lights, one to the left hand side of the model, with a snoot, and the second behind the model with a honeycomb. In front of the model i used a reflector therefore there is not enough light on the model's face, making her eye's look dead (no catch lights).
The shadows have been brightened on all of these photos, also screen and blur filters were used.

In the last 3 photos i have used mirror card to create the effect in the background, I quite like this effect and will use it next time. I am also happy with the composition of some of these shots, I feel i may be leaning more towards the beauty photography in my research. I used a macro lens for these photos and i will definitely use one again to capture detail of the model's skin.

High Key Lighting

Although i will not be using High-Key lighting for this module i have researched it to help the other members of my group who will be using it.



The image below i took in a Lighting workshop for High Key Photography. We used a light meter to make sure the two background lights evenly lit the background at f16. Two lights were used either side of the subject and both set to f8.

Rasmus Mogensen

Rasmus Mogensen is a Danish Fashion and Beauty photographer. I have chosen a few examples of his work which stand out to me because of use of lighting . It is quite strong and harsh with dark shadows. This makes the model look strong, confident and slightly masculine with clothes she is wearing. However it also emphasizes the model's curves giving a sense of femininity. I will be using similar lighting to make my photographs look more dramatic. The last few images use some kind of paint/make-up on the model's skin which reflects the light, drawing our attention to the features of the face and the texture of the skin. This makes the image a lot more interesting.

Ben Hassett

Ben Hassett is a beauty photographer. His images interest me because of the 'limited colour palette' he uses . His images are simple yet striking. I would like to use make-up and body paint, continuing the reflective theme, to make the texture of my model's face and skin more interesting.
